Just bought a '90 F250 4x4 with 144k miles, and a 351 for $480. Looks like PO's "mechanic" was astoundingly incompetent, but it looks like I'll be able to make it run with little more than elbow grease and electrical tape.

There's no such thing as a $480 big mistake. It's a giant neon sign that says "hoon boldly".

Nah, it's solid. Like you said, it's just going to be a matter of how much work it's going to need, but any parts should be pennies at a junk yard or on craigslist.

Anything with a 351 for $480 seems like a good deal.

So long as the thing isn't rusted out completely and the engine doesn't produce smoke from anywhere but the exhaust, you're golden. Will likely run forever with regular service.

Good deal if you're just looking for something to mess around with.

I am open to suggestions. Although I always naming cars was like naming farm animals. Makes it harder to turn your pig into bacon when it's got a name, all my cars end up as bacon.

Couldn't see any rust, but it was covered in snow. Underside looked good, though.
